Focus on smaller creatures
Ark: Survival Evolved is a survival game, something that is evident from the name. Naturally, you would need to do everything in your power to survive in such a testing environment, which means hunting out the native creatures of the land for necessary nutrients. Now, luckily for the players, the abandoned island is filled with several animals that one can hunt, but as a beginner, it would be wise of you if you only focus on smaller targets like Dodo and fish. Many of the creatures can easily take you out, so better stay away from them.
Start with a Pickaxe
You start the game with absolutely nothing on you, no clothes, weapons, or tools; your character is simply lost on an abandoned island with no help from anywhere. Naturally, you need to focus on the essential first, which is to build a pickaxe in this game.
A pickaxe is a simple tool that you can build with stone, wood, and thatch. Nothing would be wrong with saying that it comes in handy early in the game. Not only can you gather other resources with a pickaxe, but it also does an excellent job of hunting small animals. And since they are pretty easy to make, you will not miss it much if it breaks during the operation.
Avoid the beach but stay near it anyway.
Staying away from the beach is one of the smartest things you can do in Ark: Survival Evolved. You would be a sitting duck on the beach with no hiding spots and a clear line of view for miles. But that does mean you should simply forget about the space. Make sure you try to stay near the beach, at least in the initial stages, and farm your experience. Going up the hills is a lot more dangerous than the beach. Even the dinosaurs you find on the beach are herbivorous or passive, which is undoubtedly helpful for your survival.
Build a shelter quickly
It is not the dinosaurs or even the other players that would be the biggest enemy in the game. No, it is the climate of the place that will surely get you. Most of the players do not even survive their first night in the game. The reason? Because they ignore the need to build a safe shelter that can keep them warm during the chilly nights.
Building a temporary shelter would also help one to do some cooking by starting a campfire. However, be careful where you built your sanctuary, as you do not want to be exposed at the night you already are.
DO NOT go into the water!
The ocean is not your friend – something you need to remember at all times to survive in Ark: Survival Evolved. Sure, you can capture fish quite easily from any water body, but the ocean poses an extreme threat. There are many dangerous creatures, like Piranhas, that would chew you through your armor, or Cnidaria, which would easily stun you in the blink of an eye. And these are on the lighter ends of the threat that you might face. There are also Megalodons or Mosasaurs that you would likely face the deeper into the ocean you go.
So, as a beginner, you would be well-advised to steer clear of going on such a journey. Sure, you might be forced to go into the ocean for the oil but only do that when you are sufficiently leveled up. No point in risking your life unnecessarily.
